As marijuana becomes increasingly mainstream, the online marketplace is becoming the potrepreneur’s next frontier.

Enter Colorado’s online marijuana wholesaler, Tradiv.com. Within a year of operating, the company has received $1 million from investors to launch its website and hire new employees, increasing its full-time staff to nine people.

“We’re like Amazon for marijuana wholesalers,” said Lisa Buffo, Tradiv’s chief marketing officer.

Colorado: 55% Of Voters Still Support Marijuana Legalization

Marijuana opponents like Kevin Sabet were very certain that Colorado voters would regret voting for marijuana legalization in 2012. Three years later, there is no buyer’s remorse in Colorado. In fact, the same percentage of voters that approved marijuana legalization in Colorado on Election Day 2012 stated that they still support it according to a poll recently released by Quinnipiac University. Per 9News:

Fifty-five percent of Colorado voters say they support the voter-passed law that legalized marijuana in the state, while 41 percent are opposed. And 53 percent said they believe that legalizing marijuana has been good for the state.

As pot grows up, design enters the scene

The new Ajoya cannabis store is banking its success on high design. It hired Colorado's top architect, Jeff Sheppard.

When marijuana first became legal, design was the last thing on the mind of retailers. They just wanted their stores open in a hurry so they could start turning all that bud into bucks.

The results, visually speaking, were disastrous. Early pot shops looked a lot like bail-bond operations or check cashing centers: simple, white rooms with metal folding chairs, maybe an Ikeaprint on the wall. Buyers interfaced with sellers though bullet-proof glass windows, as if no one, on either side of the transaction, was trustworthy.

City plans to start releasing more marijuana sales tax data

Steamboat Springs — Steamboat Springs residents soon will get to see how much the new marijuana industry is putting into the city's coffers each month.

The upcoming monthly releases of marijuana sales tax data also could be used to estimate how many of the sales are coming from locals and how many from tourists.

To date, city officials have not released monthly sales tax data on the marijuana industry for two reasons.

Initially, there were only two dispensaries up and running, so disclosure would have violated city and state confidentiality rules.

Pot shop owners seeing green on Black Friday

Not to be outdone by much larger national retailers, Denver’s cannabis merchants are rolling out Black Friday deals of their own.

“We’re trying to mimic what the big-box stores do on Black Friday,” said Ryan Fox, CEO of the Kindman brand of cannabis and founder of Denver’s Grass Station stores. “Last year we had a top-10 sales day at our LoHi location – it was 50 percent more than the store would see on an average Friday.”

Marijuana tourism’s reach expands

DENVER — Every seat filled, the little tour bus navigates the busy streets of booming Denver, whisking its passengers to a glassblowing demonstration. Or they can choose a painting class. Or a cooking lesson. Or visit a farm.

If this sounds like a comparatively unexciting way to see the Mile High City, look closer. Or, better yet, take a whiff.

This party bus is filled with smoke and happy people, and smells like an art-school dorm. The tattooed glassblower is crafting high-priced bongs and pipes. The cooking class is for gourmands who want to flavor their cuisine with an herb you probably don’t have in your spice rack. The painters’ creativity is whetted by weed. And the farm is the 40,000-square-foot “cultivation facility” of one of Colorado’s top cannabis producers.

CannLabs closes Colorado testing facility, lays off workers

Colorado marijuana testing facility CannLabs closed its Denver laboratory on Tuesday and laid off as many as 15 employees.

The shutdown of one of the largest labs in Colorado, and one considered an industry leader, comes after months of controversy involving the company’s leadership.

“It’s positive for us,” CannLabs Inc. CEO Mark Mirken told The Denver Post on Tuesday, “There were a significant amount of issues surrounding our involvement with CannLabs Colorado, items that were made public by certain people within that company that were factually incorrect and clearly became an impediment to our ability to work with them under the administrative services agreement.”
