‘Lovetenders’ ready to serve as Waterloo’s 14th cannabis shop opens in uptown

Some expect to see a decline in the number of pot stores in 2022 as market saturation takes hold.

You can sit down in a green velvet love seat for a consultation with Courtney Fonseca.

As the fourteenth cannabis retailer to open in the City of Waterloo in less than two years, the new Hyerlove Cannabis shop at 1 King St. N is branding itself as a wellness collective with “lovetenders,” not budtenders, who aim to be more inviting in a market where differentiation can be difficult.

“I think anyone that’s in this industry would agree that Ontario didn’t necessarily roll it out in the right way,” said Fonseca.

Canopy's steep drop in pot sales leads to Q3 revenue decline

Toronto stock exchange

Canopy Growth Corp. reported mixed third-quarter results on Wednesday as the company's revenue continued to decline amid a hyper-competitive Canadian cannabis market while reporting a steeper-than-expected loss. The Smiths Falls, Ont.-based company said cheaper pot prices led to a 20 per cent annual decline in its cannabis business to $83 million despite ongoing efforts to address quality and other consumer issues.

"In the third quarter we actioned to win where it matters - driving record performance in our CPG business from both BioSteel and Storz & Bickel, while beginning to stabilize our Canadian business including maintaining the number one position in premium flower,” said David Klein, chief executive officer at Canopy, in a statement.

footprints in the snow

Man found with cannabis now faces charges for possessing drugs and stolen property.

It didn’t take long for officers with the Brockville Police Service (BPS) to track down a suspect who had earlier fled an attempted traffic stop and was later found with stolen goods and drugs, including cannabis.

The officers attempted a traffic stop at about 2 a.m. on Feb. 3, but the SUV driver failed to comply, opting instead to flee the scene.

Officers had no problem safely following the fresh tire tracks to the vehicle, which they discovered had slipped off the road into a ditch outside of the city, notes an incident report from the BPS.

Two officers, who had never consumed cannabis, ate an entire bar after stealing three edibles during a 2018 Toronto dispensary raid. After feeling the effects, one of the officers called 911.

What started as a raid on a Toronto cannabis dispensary has led to one officer resigning from the Toronto Police Service and a second admitting to eating cannabis edibles while on duty.

The edible in question was an infused-chocolate bar, one of three that were stolen during a 2018 raid. On Monday, a Toronto police officer pleaded guilty to a charge of discreditable conduct at a police hearing, CBC reports.
