Ontario traffic stop leads to seizure of cannabis, cocaine and $67,000 in cash

Two residents of Southern Ontario have been charged after a Northern Ontario traffic stop led to the seizure of drugs and cash.

A vehicle search led to the discovery of small quantities of suspected cannabis and cocaine as well as over $67,000 in currency, the Southeast Ontario Provincial Police – Wawa Detachment noted in a news release.

Members of the OPP were conducting a RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) checkpoint on Highway 17 in Vasiloff Township near White River earlier this month when the vehicle entered the checkpoint.

Officers noted a cannabis smell emanating from the vehicle and conducted a search.

CANNACO is Alliston’s newest cannabis store with a twist

One of Alliston’s newest businesses held a grand opening on Saturday, March 19, to let the public know they are now open and welcoming customers to their store.

CANNACO Cannabis opened its doors on Victoria Street East back in November and has quickly gained a customer base in town. The store is one of four CANNACO locations around Ontario.

Something that is unique about the store is the fact that it is staffed entirely by women. All CANNACO stores have female employees.

“We’re really making a splash in the Alliston community,” said Chloe Tu, who owns the store along with her mother.

 Canadian cannabis company Canopy Growth was fined nearly half-a-million dollars in 2020 by the Canada Revenue Agency because it began growing plants on an outdoor farm before receiving its licence from the agency, National Post has learned.

Now, the Ontario-based company is appealing the $434,611 fine to the federal court, arguing that it had complied with all its obligations required by both Health Canada and the CRA contrary to the latter’s claims.

Abandoned greenhouse bust nets $2.7M in illegal cannabis in Leamington

OPP say investigation is ongoing

Ontario Provincial Police say about $2.7 million worth of marijuana was located in a bust in Leamington.

Police and bylaw officers had a court order to to dismantle what they called an abandoned illegal grow operation at a greenhouse, OPP said in a media release on Friday.

Almost 500 pounds of dried cannabis, and well over 2,200 plants were found at the site, located in the 1000 block of Mersea Road 2.

"Joint enforcement is appreciated and crucial in successfully curtailing the ongoing illegal cannabis enterprises that continue to immerse themselves in our communities. We will continue to utilize whatever resources are available to stop these prohibited grows," OPP Sgt. Chhieu Seng said in a media release.
