Don't Fall Over, but Medical Marijuana Scored a Big Victory on Capitol Hill

Although its track record at the state level may not be perfect, medical marijuana has scored far more victories than defeats in recent years.

Medical marijuana spreads its wings

Following its first approval 20 years ago in California for compassionate use cases, medical marijuana has now become legal in 24 states, as well as Washington, D.C. The latest state to legalize the use of medical marijuana was just as much of an eye-opener as the first. Pennsylvania legalized the use of liquid, pill, or oil formulations of marijuana for medicinal use in mid-April, though it did so entirely at the legislative level (i.e., without residents voting). Pennsylvania could be the first of many states taking matters into their own hands from a legalization perspective.

Was John F. Kennedy The First President To Use Medical Marijuana In Office?

Who was the first U.S. president to smoke marijuana in office? Some argue that President George Washington grew marijuana on Mount Vernon for his own personal, medical use. But the honor of America's first commander-in-chief to use cannabis medicinally may actually belong to John F. Kennedy - who was born 99 years ago today.

A History of Cannabis and Prohibition

When it comes to history, there are a lot of things that get left out of textbooks for various reasons – and even through multiple World History and American History classes, I can’t recall a single bit of information about cannabis prior to the Reefer Madness Era. Perhaps there was a quick mention of things made of hemp, but no real background on the plant, how its uses were discovered or how it made it made its way pretty much all over the world.

This marijuana-loving Libertarian staking claim as Trump alternative

He has virtually no money, no strategy to compete in battleground states and no plan to stop talking about his drug use.

Yet with the Republican Party facing the prospect of a Donald Trump presidency, Libertarian presidential hopeful Gary Johnson could be a factor in 2016. The former two-term New Mexico governor, a Republican businessman perhaps best known for his years-long push to legalize marijuana, has a sobering message for a “never-Trump” movement desperately seeking a viable alternative.

“I will be the only third-party candidate on the ballot in all 50 states,” Johnson says. “I’m it.”

Obama Not Sure if He Smoked Weed: ‘I DON’T KNOW if That’s True

When a Vietnamese attendee at a town hall asked Pres. Obama about his weed-smoking past, the U.S. president replied that he “didn’t know” if reports of his marijuana use were true. And, after expounding on his personal turn-around, warned, “Don’t believe everything you read on the Internet.

Speaking to a group of young Vietnamese leaders in Ho Chi Minh city, Obama was hit with the accusation and asked to explain how and why he got his life together and went on to achieve greatness:

Pharmacists as Budtenders? Ohio Weighs Regulation Options

The lawmaker behind the plan to have a pharmacist in every dispensary says it's the most responsible way to oversee marijuana as medicine.

A legislative proposal to regulate medical marijuana through Ohio’s pharmacy board was scrapped Tuesday over concerns the rare setup nationally would create an undue burden on the state.

Republican Sen. David Burke, a Marysville pharmacist behind the idea, called the arrangement the most responsible way to oversee marijuana as medicine. He said changes introduced in the Senate Government Oversight Committee on Tuesday were needed to strike a workable compromise.

Jason Pinsky is Fighting to Improve the Cannabis Landscape

Jason Pinsky is a passionate advocate for cannabis legislation in New York. His own personal struggle to overcome a dependency to OxyContin after spinal surgery 15-years ago thrusted him into the cannabis advocacy and legislation sphere.  He was instrumental in the 2014 legislation that legalized cannabis for a select few within the state, and now he wants to improve the program so that everyone who needs medical cannabis can get it.
