The Fastest-Growing Demographic Of Marijuana Users Will Surprise You

When it comes to marijuana use, you’d likely expect someone in their late teens or early twenties to be considered the fastest-growing demographic within the space.

However, based on a recent study, the fastest-growing demographic of marijuana users is much, much, older than you’d expect.

In a recent video uploaded to YouTube by CBS This Morning, it is said that between 2013 and 2014, the number of marijuana users ages 55-and-older increased from 2,812,000 to 4,309,000.

The footage takes viewers inside Harborside Health Center, a California pot shop, where the demographic was most present as Barry Petersen interviewed users on their conditions and how marijuana helps treat what ails them.

States losing billions in tax revenue by not legalizing marijuana: report

Legalizing marijuana retail across the board would yield about $28 billion in tax revenue, according to a recently released report by the Tax Foundation -- which is described as an independent think tank.

Friday Funny: Seth Rogen - Legalization won't make marijuana any less funny

With films like "Superbad" and "Pineapple Express" on his resume, Seth Rogen easily one of the reigning kings of today's brand of stoner comedies, so it would be understandable if he found the current wave of marijuana legalization around the U.S. troubling from a creative perspective. But Rogen tells CBS News that he's far from worried about the implications of a more pot-friendly culture.

You're one of the vanguards of modern stoner comedy, if that's not too hoity-toity.

[Laughs.] I'll take it.

As society has been progressing, how do you see marijuana's place in comedy changing?

Seniors are filling their prescriptions -- at a pot shop

The 55-and-older crowd is now the fastest-growing demographic of pot users in the country. Between 2013 and 2014, the number increased from 2.8 million to 4.3 million.

In California, where medical marijuana is legal, seniors are learning how to fill their prescriptions -- at a pot shop. They want to know the highs and the lows of marijuana use for the aches and pains of growing old, reports CBS News correspondent Barry Petersen.

Eva Aguillara, 80, uses it to help with mobility.

"Every medication has a risk. I've made my choice," she said.

Is your cannabis clean? Colorado pesticide recalls pull pot products off shelves

Local dispensaries are pulling pot products from their shelves with yet another batch of recalls hitting cannabis wholesalers statewide. The latest, a voluntary recall by Avicenna Products, affects more than 80,000 concentrates — including wax, budder and vape pen cartridges — that were found to contain traces of pesticides.

The company announced on May 13 that samples of the products contained residual levels of Myclobutanil, Imidacloprid, Spiromesifin and/or Etoxazole — all pesticides the Colorado Department of Agriculture determined cannot be used legally on marijuana.
