Ohio marijuana vote: Investors insist there's no monopoly

Ohio to vote on competing marijuana measures Marijuana investors backing Tuesday's legalization vote in Ohio dismissed claims they're trying to monopolize the nascent industry.

"We don't agree with calling it a monopoly," investor Woody Taft told CNN's New Day. "How can you call 10 competing people a monopoly?

Woody and Dudley Taft Jr., who are great-great grandnephews of President Taft, are among the 25 investors in 10 plots of farmland identified in Ohio's Issue 3.

Issue 3: How marijuana legalization will impact your workplace

CLEVELAND -- Just because both medical and recreational marijuana might become legal, does not mean you can use the drug without consequences in the workplace.

"I am in pain," said Carolyn Harris. "Constant pain. I have been praying for this issue."

Every day, Carolyn Harris lives with the discomfort caused by chronic arthritis, Fibromyalgia and Lupus, which explains why she wants Issue 3 to pass on Tuesday.

"The pills were making me sick," said Harris. "My hair fell out and I could not walk, so by pushing this issue will help me tremendously."

She says one doctor told her if Issue 3 passes in Ohio she can try cannabis creams and oils. Just like any other prescription, employers would have to allow it in the workplace.

What’s It Like To Be A Budtender

BY ANTHONY FRANCIOSI

“Budtender” isn’t exactly the term that many of them prefer to use for themselves. Many of them consider it a tongue and cheek title. Katie, a budtender in Colorado tells us that many budtenders prefer to be called “dispensary agents.” Out of towners seeking a recreational toke smirk at the term every time they hear it according to Mia Jane who blogs about tending buds in Colorado.

Weed, Chainsaws, and Tractor Fights: The UN's Insane Disciplinary Report

UN employees apparently like to live right on the edge.

The United Nations—that revered body founded to encourage cooperation among all nations—has employee issues just like any other large organization. But perhaps due to the UN's worldwide reach, their problems are nothing like your usual HR issues; UN employees keep it very real and according to the UN's own report, crazy as hell. Almost 400 lbs. of weed, child porn downloading, chainsaw-wielding crazy.

Harvest season in Northern California is a remarkable time of year. The leaves are a rainbow of autumn colors, the air is cool and crisp, summer comes to San Francisco and the psychedelic excess of festival season gives way to a mellow reconnecting with the bounty of the land. It also marks the beginning of trim season and the annual emergence of a unique cannabis subculture, a sort of underground aspect, of the pot world.

12 things we know (and don't know) about Bernie Sanders's marijuana proposal

On Wednesday night, Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders announced a proposal to dramatically shift marijuana policy in the United States. At a campaign stop in Virginia, Sen. Sanders announced he would be proposing new legislation in the coming weeks to remove cannabis from the list of Controlled Substances—a move many call “descheduling.” In many ways, this would be the most aggressive change—short of national legalization—that Congress could make, and Sanders is the most prominent official in the United States to support such a move. There is a bit we know about what this proposal could mean, and there is much we don’t quite yet know. Let’s break down each.

What do we know about Sanders’ descheduling proposal?

Marijuana vote in Ohio difficult to predict

The television commercials, direct-mail ads, endorsements and debates are over: It’s time to decide whether marijuana will be legal in Ohio.

Eyes across the country will be on the Buckeye State on Tuesday to see what voters decide on State Issue 3, the for-profit constitutional amendment to legalize marijuana in smokable and edible form for recreational use for those 18 or older, and for patients of any age with qualifying medical conditions.

The warring campaigns — ResponsibleOhio and Ohioans Against Marijuana Monopolies — are as different as you can imagine.

ResponsibleOhio is backed almost exclusively by 10 groups of wealthy investors who were expected to spend upward of $25 million on the legalization campaign.

Oregon's marijuana divide

About 30 chamber of commerce members turned out Oct. 23 to tour Plantae Health, a marijuana dispensary, among them bankers, escrow officers, a retired engineer, a city councilman, a public health official and the mayor.

The guests sipped coffee and sampled pastries while mingling in the clean, sparse reception area of the dispensary in a small commercial strip on U.S. Highway 97 just south of the center of town.

The morning conviviality gave way to questions and answers.

No, said Andrew Anderson, co-owner of the dispensary with his wife, Jocelyn Anderson, the aroma of marijuana wafting from a neighbor’s greenhouse won’t get you high, and the plant roots do not contaminate the soil with psychoactive chemicals.

Bad News: We May Have a Marijuana Problem on Our Hands

Marijuana has been something of an unstoppable force over the past two decades. After being completely outlawed in all states in 1995, marijuana in 2015 can now be legally sold in 23 states for medicinal purposes (as well as Washington, D.C.), and it can be sold legally for recreational use to adults ages 21 and up in four states (and Washington, D.C.).
