"Welcome to Psychedelicatessen, a weekly column exploring the world of cannabis cuisine, including recipes from the great chefs and ganjapreneurs who fuel our appetite for adventure."

As the cannabis industry goes mainstream, many activists have bemoaned the “get rich quick” mentality of investors looking to cash in on the green rush. But while plenty of opportunists have flooded the cannabis space, there’s also been a small trickle of truly community-minded, progressive entrepreneurs quietly joining our ranks.

Medical Marijuana Grower Eyes Old Depot

The Town of Romulus Board meeting provided a letter of support to a medical company looking to grow marijuana on 20 acres of the old Seneca Army Depot. Mike Palombo, Director of Research and Development for Civita Medical, a research and development company with property in the former Army Depot, gave the introduction. The property is located near Seneca Bio-energy; it would be all fenced in and secure with employee parking as part of Phase I.

Civita bought property in the Depot in 2014. Palombo reminded the public that the Governor Cuomo’s office has approved legislation for medical marijuana, and said the company was seeking one of five New York State licenses to grow medical marijuana.

Michigan voters likely to see marijuana on 2016 ballot

MACKINAC ISLAND, Mich. (WJBK) -A measure to legalize marijuana is likely to appear on next year's ballot -and not everyone is happy about it.

Petitions to place the issue of legalizing marijuana appears to be headed to the voters.  The first step was officially filed Friday.

It is a voter initiative, a voter supported law, that supporters believe has many benefits.

It was one of the topics at the Mackinac Policy Conference.

"It's been decriminalized in most municipalities," said attorney John Pirich. "And this state and virtually all the other states. It is a tremendous amount of revenue and policing that could come with regulation."

Meet the Oregon police dogs who have a big drug problem

There’s little doubt that Travis Dahl adores his dog, Dora, and absolutely none that she adores him. But their partnership is on borrowed time. Soon, Dora will leave for a new home and a new job. “It’ll be a bittersweet moment when she leaves, that’s for sure,” he says ruefully.

Dora, you see, has a drug problem. When it comes to marijuana, she can’t help herself. She’ll find it in sealed bags in the trunks of cars, hidden under floorboards, inside walls, drawers or pockets. And when she finds it, she won’t move until Dahl retrieves it and rewards her.

Canadian Marijuana Growers Say: Don’t Import Sativa from Australia

Why does the Canadian government show blatant disrespect for Canadian marijuana growers?

That’s the question many of us are asking when we learn the Canadian government is facilitating a marijuana importation scheme in cahoots with the Australian government and an Australian “medical marijuana” company called AusCann.

AusCann is based on Norfolk Island, off Australia’s coast.

The company says it’s using two hectares of grow space to produce at least a ton of “medicinal cannabis” for export to the Canadian medical marijuana distribution system. It intends to create a “multi-million dollar” business exporting marijuana to Canada.
