Nelson Sees Big Future for Cannabis in Territory

Sen. Terrence “Positive” Nelson and his staff have started drafting a bill to legalize, license and regulate medicinal cannabis in the U.S. Virgin Islands, but it may be a while before the “Medical Cannabis Patient Care Act” bill is heard in the legislature, the senator told a news conference Tuesday.

“I can't dictate when it will be heard in Legislature,” Nelson said.

It could be as late as August, he said, because of budget hearings coming up, he said. The draft of the bill will be submitted to the Legislature's legal council by the end of May. Legal council will have 45 days to review it, then it goes to a legislative committee process.

FBI official named to take over embattled drug agency

Atty Gen. Loretta Lynch reached into the ranks of top FBI administrators Tuesday for new leadership at the troubled Drug Enforcement Administration.

Chuck Rosenberg, currently chief of staff to FBI Director James B. Comey, is expected to shake up DEA management practices and focus less on marijuana enforcement and more on heroin and other major drugs, a senior administration official said.

Kincardine medical marihuana facility layoffs come after five months of waiting on Health Canada federal inspections

Kincardine’s medical marihuana facility has laid off its 15 workers, and management will continue to operate at zero salary while they await a Health Canada inspection of the completed facility.

Advanced Medical Marihuana Canada (AMMCan), a subsidiary of Supreme Pharmaceutical, has spent over $500,000 in upkeep costs since Dec. 12, 2014, when it informed the federal government that renovations were completed and it was ready for inspection of the pharmaceutical marihuana facility at the Bruce Energy Centre, off Bruce Road 20 near Lake Huron.

Marijuana ads on Vancouver radio prompt national agencies to pass to the left

Justin Wilcomes is known to push boundaries. Now he’s pushing medicinal marijuana.

Better known by his DJ name Drex, he made his name asking Premier Christy Clark an inappropriate question about her sexual desirability as a mother, which she laughed off.

It got him fired from 98.9 Jet FM in Courtenay, but he was hired by CKNW last fall to host a show from 6 to 10 p.m.

Last month, Wilcomes began pitching medicinal marijuana on-air for Eden Medicinal Society.

Mock Ad For New DEA Chief Shows What It Takes To Be A 'Real' Drug Warrior

A leading drug policy reform group has created a satirical ad seeking a new Drug Enforcement Administration chief that skewers the DEA in the wake of scandals and the announcement that its current administrator plans to resign.

The ad, which was produced by Drug Policy Alliance and is slated to appear in Wednesday's edition of congressional newspaper Roll Call, lists the new DEA chief's primary responsibilities -- including mass incarceration, police state tactics, obstruction of science, subverting democracy and undermining human rights.

Retired Cop: I Never Encountered A Person 'Acting Out Under The Influence Of Marijuana'

A pro-marijuana ad debuting in Texas on Tuesday showcases a retired police officer who says the state should take a more "sensible" approach to marijuana policies because the drug causes far fewer problems than alcohol.

"I know of no instance in my entire career where someone was acting out under the influence of marijuana," says Russell Jones in the ad supporting a Texas House bill that would decriminalize marijuana, reducing the penalty for possessing less than an ounce to a maximum civil fine of $250. Current state law allows maximum penalties of six months in jail and a $2,000 fine for possessing less than two ounces.

Marijuana debate exclusive: What would you be voting on?

COLUMBUS – If their proposal gets on the November ballot, and is approved by voters, ten people or investment groups will basically own the exclusive right to grow marijuana for legal sale in Ohio.

As their campaign, under the one-word name “ResponsibleOhio”, has gained traction, the people behind those investments (roughly $2 million apiece) have largely stayed behind-the-scenes, until now.

Kentucky CBD: Back to the Future with Industrial Hemp

On May 5th 2015, James Comer, Commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Agriculture (KDA), held a press conference in a Lexington-based tobacco facility belonging to G.F. Vaughan, the last remaining tobacco processor in Kentucky.

His message was historic, his location symbolic: the first year of state-sanctioned industrial hemp farming under the Farm Bill succeeded, and the pilot program’s second year promises to be bigger and better, with the potential to elevate the entire state economy by restoring industrial hemp as the new “cash crop.”

Sporting T-shirts and caps printed with marijuana leaves and with joints hanging from their lips, hundreds of people demonstrated in Paris on Saturday as part of a world march calling for the legalisation of cannabis.

Crowds of protesters, many dressed in Jamaican colours, made their way through the streets of the French capital from the Place de la Republique to Bastille calling for the legalisation of recreational marijuana use.

“What do we want? Legalisation,” chanted the crowd, wreathed in clouds of hashish smoke and gathered behind a banner reading “Another drug policy is possible” and placards calling for “Ganga for all”.
