Marijuana Company Funds Summer Job Program for At-Risk Teens

Some Illinois teens could potentially be working in the medical marijuana industry this summer thanks to a generous donation to the city of Bloomington for the creation of a labor program for local youngsters.

Earlier this week, Curative Health, Inc., a medical marijuana corporation based in New York, submitted a check for $20,000 to the city council in hopes of greasing the political wheels enough to earn themselves a license to operate a dispensary within the city limits. The contribution, which was reportedly a suggestion made by Mayor Tari Renner, is intended to create summer work opportunities for the city’s at-risk teens.

Is the cannabis business right for you?

Could your next job be in the legal marijuana industry? It's already the fastest-growing business in the U.S. and is expected to generate $10.8 billion in sales in 2019, a huge increase from $2.7 billion seen in 2014, according to Arcview Market Research.

About two dozen states have legalized medical marijuana. Colorado, Alaska, Washington State and Washington, D.C., permit recreational use of cannabis. Support for decriminalization of pot also is surging. A recent survey by Pew found that 54 percent of Americans support the idea.

A basketball star, a ton of marijuana and a reputation destroyed

Jason Miskiri kept his role in a $US12 million drug ring a secret for years.

Lots of people thought they knew Jason Miskiri.

The quiet kid from Guyana who moved to Maryland at age five and whose obsession with basketball led to a starring role at George Mason University and, later, to a brief appearance in the National Basketball Association.

The community pillar who donated to charities, hosted Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners for the homeless and held a basketball camp each summer for local children.

High hopes for a cannabis division of the American Chemical Society

Back in October, one man was working to petition the American Chemical Society (ACS) to establish a division for cannabis chemists. TDs who brag about past drug use need to back law reform

Labour TD Aodhán Ó Ríordáin is the latest Irish politician to admit using drugs but the only one who didn't break the law to do so. Speaking after his new role of Minister of State with responsibility for Drug Strategy was added to his portfolio, he said he dabbled with drugs once while a student.

"I didn't break the law. I was a student, I was in Amsterdam, it was the weekend. I am not a smoker. I do what most students do," he said.

Mr Ó Ríordáin joins a number of other high-profile politicians who have also conceded to using drugs, namely cannabis. Back in 2007, then Finance Minister Brian Cowen was dubbed "Biffo Spliffo" after he admitted using the drug during his student days.

Keep your inbox empty with one of these four strategies

No matter how much time we spend trying to optimize our inbox — from batch checking messages to adding bells and whistles — email takes over our lives. Looking at my stats from last month, I received and processed over 10,000 emails (eek!), so finding the right way tomanage all this online correspondence has been critical for my day-to-day sanity.

Turns out, though, the "right way" to manage email depends a lot on your own personal style. I've rounded up some of the most popular and successful strategies so that you can decide which one is best for you:

The Big Business Recruitment Strategy You Should Be Copying

In the pitched battle for smart, skilled recruits, you need to take every advantage you can get. But small and medium sized enterprises often don’t have the sophisticated ‘brand feel’ that large, well-known firms use to distinguish themselves in the talent marketplace.

That’s why it’s so important to proactively work toward creating a cohesive brand voice and outward-facing profile that represents your company and culture in the best possible light. When done effectively, a well positioned, outward-facing profile can help you attract strong talent and give prospective employees a representative glimpse into your organization.
