Marijuana dispensary job ads on Craigslist could be scam

SAUGET, Ill. (KMOV.com) -Help wanted advertisements have appeared online, claiming to be for the first marijuana dispensary set to open in the Metro East, but the company who owns the dispensary is worried the postings are a scam.

The dispensary, owned by The Green Solution, is set to open in Sauget in October and has nothing to do with the ad recently posted on Craigslist.

The Craigslist ad seeks positions ranging from bud tenders to security guards and bakers and promises pay of $25 an hour.

Vice President of Operations Tanya Griffin of The Green Solution, a Denver based company, said she is worried the unknown group who posted the ad could be trying to scam people.

'Marijuana Week' Is Coming To DC

Well that didn't take long. Only a couple months after D.C.'s marijuana legalization laws took effect, investors are already planning a convention to figure out how they can get in on the green rush. (No, not that Green Rush, but if any investors are interested in investing in that column, I'm willing to sell out in .01 seconds. Growing weed is expensive).

Calgary's first medical marijuana clinic could open by end of April

The first clinic in Alberta intended to help patients navigate around the federal rules for medical marijuana could open in Inglewood by the end of April.

Clinic 420 will be located in the basement of the Swans of Inglewood pub on Ninth Ave. S.E. According to the owner, the store has had push back from residents.

"The word 'marijuana,' it frightens people," Jeff Mooiji told the Calgary Eyeopener on Thursday.

I Thought Legalizing Pot Would Be a Disaster. But It Turned Out To Be Wonderful.

Bruce Barcott is the author of "Weed the People, the Future of Legal Marijuana in America."

We no longer arrest 12,000 people every year for possessing marijuana in Washington state

In a California courtroom earlier this year, U.S. District Court Judge Kimberly Mueller wondered what exactly was at stake in the federal government’s defense of marijuana prohibition. Mueller is hearing a case that challenges the government’s Schedule I classification of pot, a status that ranks it alongside heroin as one of the world’s most dangerous drugs. As the case wrapped up – a decision is expected this month – she put a question to the U.S. attorneys defending the federal ban. “If I were persuaded” that marijuana’s status was unconstitutional, “what would you lose here?”

Tilray, medical marijuana producer, brings in big bucks for Nanaimo

A federally-licenced medical marijuana producer in Nanaimo, B.C., is contributing so much to the local economy that city council has approved a proposal to roughly quintuple the size of the facility.

"At this particular point in time, [Tilray has] contributed about $3.2 million in direct wages in just over a year in operations, and they will continue to do so," Mayor Bill McKay told The Early Edition's Rick Cluff.

"When they are involved in their building process … 95 per cent of the contractors were locals, so you can imagine when you're going from a 65,000 square foot-facility to a 265,000 square foot-facility — that's good jobs, that's great impact."

Dazed And Confused: State-Legal Marijuana And The Drug-Free Workplace

Where cannabis is legal, employers can no longer drug test employees for THC, right? Wrong. For now.

In all 23 states and the District of Columbia where medical marijuana is legal (including the four states and D.C. where recreational marijuana is also legal), employers may drug test their employees and insist on a drug-free workplace. Few of the marijuana-friendly states require that employers accommodate employees who use cannabis, even if for medical use.

Marijuana on Store Shelves Creates Colorado Cargo-Hauling Niche

At a farm in the foothills of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains, Corey Young tucks his client’s marijuana into a shoe box-sized container in an unmarked white van and heads out on the road.

“We don’t want to be going through a small town and have someone see bins in the back,” said Young, a founder of courier service CannaRabbit LLC. “We do not want to stick out at all.”

Red Flags For Entrepreneurs Considering A Legal Cannabis Franchise

It was only a matter of time before the emerging legal cannabis industry began using one of America’s most popular business methods for rapid growth — franchising. This startup sector is wide-open spaces right now, and full of interesting players looking to grow fast and establish a national brand name.

The quest to franchise a legal cannabis business is even the subject of an upcoming CNN reality-TV series, High Profits, about Breckenridge Cannabis Club in Colorado.

Looking for a job in the legal marijuana business? There's an app for that.

Marijuana is one of the few sectors of the American economy where the jobs are, but how to find that pot dream job? There's an app, of course.

WeedHire.com, a site that's looking to become the Monster.com of legal marijuana jobs, this week released the world’s first iOS app to help people find a job in the pot industry. The site, launched in May 2014, released an Android version of its app in September.

“Marijuana is not that different than other industries, and it’s not just about the plant. There’s a need for people to work in accounting, finance, legal, HR, etc.,” said David Bernstein, a former electronic-waste executive who founded WeedHire.com.
