Eleven years after being approved, Montana's medical marijuana industry faces an existential threat

BILLINGS, Mont. – Gone are the flashing green neon lights on street corners advertising $200 ounces of marijuana in Billings and Butte and beyond. Gone are the traveling cannabis caravans of doctors infamous for signing up hundreds of medical marijuana hopefuls in a single day.

The vast majority of the nearly 30,000 patients and 4,900 providers that once flooded this state of just more than 1 million people have been driven out of Montana’s medical marijuana program, which was first legalized in 2004.

Stop Politicising Ganja Studies

A lecturer from the University of Technology (UTech) is calling on ganja researchers to stop politicising the ongoing studies into the weed's medicinal properties, and to provide accurate information so health-care workers can properly counsel pregnant mothers who have used the substance.

Paulette Larmond, lecturer of the Caribbean School of Nursing at UTech, made the call during a public forum on ganja, which was held during the second biennial Nursing and Midwifery Research Conference at the Holiday Inn Resort and Spa in Montego Bay on Friday.

What Happens When You Decriminalize Marijuana

No presidential candidate has fully supported the idea of legalizing marijuana at a federal level, but a few have played with the idea of decriminalizing marijuana. So what are the benefits of decriminalization?

"Decriminalization does not address the need to eliminate the unregulated and over-capitalized black market," Jon Gettman, an associate professor in criminal justice at Shenandoah University, told ATTN:. Gettman said that there are social and economic consequences to black markets, and decriminalization would only change marijuana crimes to something you might be fined for, instead of something that you'd get arrested for.

Synthetic cannabis Full Moon and Sinsence banned in South Australia

A SYNTHETIC cannabis that makes users psychotic and gives them apparent superhuman strength has been banned in South Australia.

Attorney-General John Rau added two new synthetic chemicals that mimic cannabis — known by the street names Full Moon and Sinsence — to the list of substances outlawed in the state.

They are believed to be similar to a type of synthetic pot known as Spice, which has become prevalent among homeless people in the US and UK because it is a cheap high, but which has side effects likened to crack cocaine.

The drug increases body temperature, sometimes leading users to strip naked. It has been dubbed “weaponised marijuana” by New York’s police chief because it makes addicts impervious to normal police take-down measures such as Tasers.

Novak Djokovic complains of cannabis smell during Montreal win over Jérémy Chardy

Novak Djokovic complained of being put off by the smell of cannabis on court during his Rogers Cup semi-final win over Jérémy Chardy.

After winning the first set 6-4 on Saturday, the world No1 approached the umpire’s chair and said: “Someone is smoking weed, I can smell it, I’m getting dizzy. Somebody is getting high. Can you smell it? The whole place smells of it.”

Nonetheless Djokovic went on to win the second set 6-4 and reach Sunday’s final, where he will resume his rivalry with Andy Murray.
