How Dangerous Are Stoned Drivers?

A common debate among heavy marijuana consumers is "how dangerous is driving while high?"

The safety concerns of drink driving are inarguable and the number of fatal accidents is enough evidence to prove that. However, marijuana is a different matter with some medical patients and long-time consumers functionality more-or-less unchanged with consumption levels that could completely incapacitate a novice consumer.

So where does that leave enforcement and intoxication levels?

New cannabis extract lets you choose if you want to feel ‘chilled’ or ‘giggly’

Stoners will soon be able to choose if they want to be ‘chilled’ or ‘giggly’ when they sit down to get blasted.

American company Ebbu is creating cannabis oils built to create different ‘feelings’ for users – with five flavours: giggle, create, energy, chill, and bliss.

The Ebbu oils will be used in cannabis cakes and fizzy drinks.

How do you want to feel?

Ebbu will market its products in states where cannabis is legal – and produces the oils by distilling different cannabinoids from marijuana plants to create different feelings.

‘Consumers don’t purchase edibles based on flavoring, they purchase based on how it’s going to make the person feel,’ says the firm’s co-founder Dooma Wendschuh.

The rise of Jamaica's legalized ‘green rush’

Jamaicans want to capitalize on a homegrown industry, but who will see the profits?

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Eventually, the 2,500-gallon steamer that sits empty at a massive warehouse in Brown's Town, Jamaica, will be pumping out spicy sauces infused with marijuana.

At least, that’s what Maurice Ellis is hoping.

Colorado may ban 'candy' name on marijuana treats, add red stop signs to packages

DENVER — Edible marijuana products in Colorado may soon come labeled with a red stop sign.

The state is finalizing work on new rules for the appearance of edible marijuana. A draft of those rules released Tuesday would require each piece of edible marijuana to be marked in the shape of a stop sign with the letters THC in the middle. The letters stand for marijuana's psychoactive ingredient.

The rules would also prohibit any edible marijuana maker from using the word "candy" on the label.

A cannabis startup wants you to choose your own high

What if you could choose exactly the type of high you felt when you smoked a joint or ate a pot brownie?

Scientists at the cannabis company Ebbu are creating marijuana extracts to conjure up the kind of mood you’d like to feel. They want consumers to experience one of their five branded feelings: giggle, create, energy, chill, and bliss.

“Consumers don’t purchase edibles based on flavoring, they purchase based on how it’s going to make the person feel,” says Dooma Wendschuh, co-founder of Ebbu.

According to experts, marijuana in its raw form is totally unpredictable, which is why most first-time users don’t know what to expect when they try it. Ebbu is trying to take that unknown factor out of the equation.

I used to be really skeptical of marijuana legalization. Here's what changed my mind.

As a reporter focused on drug policy, I used to be skeptical of marijuana legalization. So it wasn't a sure thing that covering this issue over the years would make me less cautious — and more supportive — of legalization. But it has.
