Watch: Legalization Of Marijuana Could Mean Big Business For Ohio Head Shops

One head shop in Columbus said it has steadily seen an increase in business over the last five years.

“It’s just a business that’s growing every day,” Eddie Mustafa said.

Mustafa works at High Up Head Shop. He said in the last few years his colorful pipes, vapors and hookahs, or “toys” as he calls them, have seen a significant increase in sales.

Making Ohio the 24th state to legalize marijuana, he said, would mean even higher numbers.

“It’s going to increase and sell more, for sure,” he said.

“Any tobacco shop similar to this one is definitely going to benefit from the bill passing,” James Steimens said.

Steimens agrees with Mustafa saying the proposed bill would be good for the state, economically.

Do You Use Marijuana? A Record Number of Americans Say ‘Yes’

Marijuana Legalization is in full swing in some parts of the country, and it’s clear that both laws and attitudes toward cannabis and prohibition are changing rapidly. With the past two election cycles producing four states with full recreational marijuana legalization laws, and 2016 set to bring us even more, marijuana is set to be a hotly debated topic among regulators and politicians for years to come.

With the release of a recent Gallup poll, the only thing going up in smoke faster than dank nugs of Green Crack in Portland are people’s support for the continuation of prohibition laws. Not only that, but the number of Americans who are willing to admit that they have had a toke or two is as high as it’s been since 1969.

Eight courses high and rising: Amsterdam's gourmet marijuana dining experience

When was the last time you felt trepidation prior to eating in a restaurant? Not the social anxiety of a first date or dining with your boss, but a soupçon of nervousness about the food itself. I’m at Fraîche, a cosy restaurant in Amsterdam’s hip Jordaan district, where chefs and co-owners Noah Tucker and Tony Joseph are laying on an eight-course psychedelic dinner, $80 (£50) a head, for 25 invited guests. Alhough each course has been carefully tested for taste and potency over the previous few months, it is the first time they have all been combined in one dinner. We are guinea pigs.

Why is Hemp Known as the "Green Buffalo" of Plants?

The buffalo is widely known to be a symbol of Native American culture. Tribes used the animal in its entirety, with every part having its purposes -- the muscle for meat, fat for soap and cooking oil, bones for knives and other tools, the hide for clothing and shelter. But did you know that hemp is often referred to as the "green buffalo"? Much like the buffalo, all parts of the hemp plant are valuable as they offer sustainable, renewable alternatives for everyday products.

Uruguay Recreational Cannabis Sales to Begin by Early 2016

Updates out of Uruguay suggest the long-awaited sale of recreational marijuana will now begin in 2016, a little over two years after the groundbreaking legislation was passed.

Speaking before an audience in Buenos Aires last month, Milton Romani, the secretary general of Uruguay's National Drugs Board (JND), stated that unfounded concerns President Tabare Vazquez would veto legislation legalizing cannabis were simply not true, and that the model for cultivating and dispensing marijuana for recreational use should come into force if not by Christmas 2015, then soon after, reported Cronica.

Radio Special and Exhibit on Marijuana in Washington Coming in November

Marijuana has come a long way since the days of Reefer Madness. Three years after Washington voters legalized recreational use, a new radio documentary will examine the social, political and commercial state of the herb.

On November 6, Seattle radio station Puget Sound FM will air an original program, “Taking the High Road,” which looks at marijuana post-legalization through the eyes of local officials, marijuana entrepreneurs, consumers and parents. The program airs at 7 pm and will be available for free download as well.

The documentary kicks off a six-month exhibit of the history of marijuana in media. The project concludes with the station’s April 20, 2016 broadcast day when media from the exhibit as well as music, comedy and more are featured on-air.

Scientists Bust Marijuana Myths And Call For Rational Policy

Marijuana is not a gateway drug and legalization does not result in a massive spike in cannabis use, according to the International Centre For Science In Drug Policy (ICSDP).

ICSDP released two papers Tuesday examining the state of the evidence surrounding marijuana use and regulation. The first paper serves to debunk a host of common claims made against cannabis use and legalization. The second seeks to guide the public on how to use evidence when talking about cannabis.

One of the myths ICSDP tackles is the claim that cannabis is a gateway drug. The evidence thus far points out that cannabis does precede the use of other illicit substances, but there is no causal link between marijuana use and the use of harder drugs.

Ohio Voters Will Get To Decide On Legalizing Marijuana in November

Ohio voters will decide in November whether to legalize marijuana use for treating illnesses and for getting high.

Secretary of State Jon Husted said on Wednesday he had certified the group ResponsibleOhio had gathered enough valid signatures to place a constitutional amendment before voters in November.

The proposed amendment's language still needs approval by the Ohio Ballot Board, he said.

The measure would establish a Marijuana Control Commission charged with regulating the growth, sale and taxation of marijuana, similar to legalization plans approved by voters in four other U.S. states.
