Kicking back at the most weed-friendly B&B on the planet

SILVERTHORNE — Upstairs at the Bud+Breakfast, the hosts had laid out a fine buffet. Half-eaten store-bought pizzas sat on the stove and the kitchen counter, along with a barely-touched tray of crudité. More importantly, the offerings included five different strains of marijuana, as well as an array of clean pipes and mini-bongs that would make any collector jealous.

It was 4:20 p.m. Happy hour had arrived.

A sliding glass door opened to a long porch and a tremendous view of the peaks surrounding Silverthorne, Colorado. It was a perfect place to hork a fatty, puff a vape pen or eat a THC-infused peach candy ring.

Synthetic marijuana ban expanded by New York State

ALBANY - New York has broadened a ban on synthetic marijuana to keep up with drug makers who create new chemical recipes to evade the existing law.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo says Thursday that the state health department has approved tougher regulations to include new compounds of synthetic pot. While the drugs were first created to mimic the effects of marijuana, their chemical makeup is far different, and new formulations have been created by chemists looking to evade a 2012 ban.

Known by various names, including synthetic cannabinoids, Spice, K2, Black Mamba and Crazy Clown, these drugs are responsible for an increasing number of harmful and dangerous reactions.

It Turns out the Worst Rumors About Marijuana Are Dead Wrong

Researchers have come to some remarkable conclusions about the effects of marijuana use in recent years—how it reduces pain and helps heal fractured bones—but surely long-term use poses health concerns, right? Not really, says Jordan Bechtold, the lead researcher behind a new study on chronic adolescent use of cannabis.

State lawmakers agree: The federal government should not interfere with states that set their own marijuana laws.

The National Conference of State Legislatures, a nongovernment organization composed of state lawmakers and their staffs, passed a resolution Thursday urging the federal government to amend the Controlled Substances Act and other federal laws "to explicitly allow states to set their own marijuana and hemp policies without federal interference" and to refrain from undermining state marijuana and hemp laws.

Alcohol wholesalers pushing for recreational marijuana initiative

Alcohol wholesalers play a crucial role in providing the Las Vegas economy with an important lubricant — and they have the political clout to match.

Now, many of those same companies are angling for a piece of what could be Nevada’s next big vice — recreational marijuana.

The 2016 ballot will feature a measure that would fully legalize marijuana. If passed, Nevada would join Colorado, Washington, Alaska and Oregon in allowing recreational pot.

The DOJ 'Intended To Discourage' A Historic Medical Marijuana Bill

An internal Department of Justice memo leaked this week reveals that in the days leading up to last year's historic passage of a federal medical marijuana protections measure, the DOJ passed around "informal talking points" to members of Congress that were "intended to discourage passage" of the statute due to concerns about overreach -- concerns that would later turn out to be incorrect.

Ever Wondered What Happens To Your Body After Smoking Marijuana

Marijuana is quickly becoming the world’s most popular drug and in the UK alone nearly 14 million people have tried the substance, according to recent research. The use of cannabis continues to grow as more studies have revealed the health benefits from its consumption. In Britain it has become the most used illegal drug with nearly 93% of drug users admitting to having tried it.

But what actually happens in your body when you smoke a joint?

A new study that combines the data from the NHS, drug group Frank, Yale University and America’s National Institute for Health has been put together to depict a minute-by-minute breakdown of what cannabis actually does to the body – including why it gives you the munchies.
