The madness begins: Lambeth bans everything in legal high crack-down

You don't have to wait for the psychoactive substances bill to become law for the absurd spectacle of its enforcement. If you want a quick preview of what happens when society truly loses its mind over drugs, pop down to Lambeth after August 17th, when they'll be imposing a 'public spaces protection order' banning…. well, pretty much everything.

People within the 'restricted area' will not be able to "ingest, inhale, inject, smoke, possess or otherwise use"… "substances with the capacity to stimulate or depress the central nervous system" according to the order.

South African Teen Use of Dagga Grows

Dagga in South Africa use is common, but it certainly isn’t meant for children, with research showing ill effects on developing brains. Yet, it seems that many teens get high at school and some even make money selling dagga cookies. Video: eNCA

JOHANNESBURG - The Department of Education has a policy stating that should a child be expelled, they should be kept in that school until alternative placement is found for them. That was not the case for 15-year-old Linda Ramatlou (not his real name) and 18-year-old Karabo Mphathi of Springs Boys’ High School.

Britain: Legal highs are rife in jails; new laws won’t help much

Spicing up life behind bars

ALEX CAVENDISH first encountered Spice, a synthetic drug that imitates cannabis, in prison in 2012 when a sleepy looking Dutch man, serving a sentence for drug offences, started trading it. By 2014, Mr Cavendish says, half his fellow prisoners would “literally stagger” down the hall to roll-call each day, high on the drug, varying their routine only so far as to pass out in the grounds, be violently sick in a washroom, or urinate in a six-man dormitory.

Presidential Candidate Chris Christie vows crackdown on recreational marijuana

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has a message for people in states that have legalized recreational marijuana use: Enjoy it while you can.

“You take an oath of office,” Mr. Christie, a 2016 Republican presidential candidate, said on “Fox and Friends.” “I take one as governor; I will take one as president that says that you’ll enforce the laws — not just enforce the laws you like. You’ll enforce the laws. And marijuana is against the law in the United States and it should be enforced in all 50 states.

A teen died after eating pot. Guess how many died from alcohol poisoning?

In 2014, a college student vacationing in Colorado ate a marijuana cookie and several hours later jumped to his death from a hotel balcony. The tragedy served as, among other things, a reminder that ingesting marijuana is an inherently less predictable experience than smoking it.

World Famous Cannabis Cafe to reopen Friday in Portland

For years, the World Famous Cannabis Café in Portland offered medical marijuana patients the chance to socialize and smoke.

Starting Friday, anyone 21 and older can walk into the club and light up.

The hitch: You'll have to bring your own pot. Patrons, who will pay $10 to get in, can share but not sell cannabis at the café, said owner Madeline Martinez.

Call it BYOB or BYOD, said Martinez, a longtime political activist and fixture of Oregon's marijuana community. "Bring your own bud and bring your own dabs," she said.
