Law Passes in Oregon to Begin Recreational Marijuana Sales Early

"If marijuana is legal to use, it shouldn’t be illegal to buy."

Oregon adults will be able to legally purchase recreational marijuana beginning Oct. 1, about a year earlier than had been expected.

Gov. Kate Brown (D) signed a law on Tuesday allowing the sale of recreational marijuana in existing medical marijuana dispensaries, starting just three months after Oregon's reformed marijuana law went into effect.

The measure "is a smart solution to a short-term logistical problem," Kristen Grainger, Brown's spokeswoman, told The Huffington Post. "Oregon’s new recreational marijuana law went into effect in July 2015, but Oregonians couldn’t lawfully buy it anywhere for another year or more. If marijuana is legal to use, it shouldn’t be illegal to buy."

Chris Cooper is a 57-year-old retired investment adviser from Ohio. He opted to retire in San Diego because California has legalized medical marijuana use. Cooper, who doesn’t like heavy-duty prescription painkillers like Vicodin, told Reuters that marijuana eases his back pain and spasms.

Wyoming: Few expected to apply for hemp registration

SHERIDAN — As Sheridan and Wyoming residents have the opportunity to apply for hemp extract registration cards, questions over similarities between hemp and marijuana arise. Cards will provide qualifying individuals with intractable epilepsy to treat their symptoms with hemp.

Coming from Cannabis Sativa — a plant typically used for industrial purposes — it carries only trace amount of Tetrahydro-cannabinol, the principal psychoactive ingredient in marijuana. Products being made from hemp must contain less than 0.3 percent THC in order to be legally sold in Wyoming.

Hemp products — such as ropes and fabrics — are manufactured from the male plant while medical and recreational uses of marijuana come from the female plant.

Australian study finds cannabis more popular with older people than ever before

The data compiled by Flinders University’s National Centre for Education and Training on Addiction shows one third of Australians over 14 had tried cannabis.

Once believed to be the drug of choice for free-spirited youth, cannabis is more popular with older people than ever before.

Teenagers are in fact delaying their experimentation with the drug, according to a compilation of the latest data by Flinders University’s National Centre for Education and Training on Addiction.

NCETA director Ann Roche said it was good news the average age at which teenagers first experimented with cannabis was increasing.
