Dear Helicopter Cops, Don't Bust My Grow

It is soon high season in California, and law enforcement is in the air with helicopters looking for cannabis grows to raid before the harvest. Some marijuana crops are legal under California’s medical cannabis laws, and some are grown outside those laws.  Many counties are de facto nullifying prop 215 and sb 420 by enacting strict zoning requirements.  From the air, all marijuana gardens look the same to a cop: illegal.

San Francisco: Marijuana Edibles 'Get Baked Sale' Canceled After City Crackdown

A bake sale for medical marijuana-laced edibles scheduled for August 1 has been quashed by the SF Department of Public Health after a new supervisor there ruled that such events aren't legal, as SF Evergreen reports. Though vendors at the first Get Baked Sale in June — which garnered national coverage from the Associated Press because of its newness, and maybe because it seemed questionably legal under city law — only sold their goods to patients with valid medical marijuana cards, DPH inspector Larry Kessler, who took over the cannabis beat on July 1, says the event sounds like it's been set up "to skirt local law," because in SF selling medical marijuana to ten or more people requires a dispensary permit.

Feds Raid Native American Reservation, Seize 12000 Legal Marijuana Plants

ALTURAS, Calif. — Last week, federal agents raided land belonging to two federally-recognized Native American tribes, and seized 12,000 cannabis plants from their properties. The bust came despite new federal guidelines designed to allow limited marijuana cultivation by indigenous groups in the United States.

The agents arrived at the properties at the far northern edge of California on July 8, ultimately seizing the plants and over 100 pounds of marijuana ready for use from two buildings — an event center belonging to the Alturas Rancheria and a greenhouse belonging to the Pit River tribe. Benjamin Wagner, the U.S. district attorney in Sacramento, led the raid.

Sacramento County declares marijuana cultivation form of water waste

The Sacramento County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday to continue the urgency ordinance on medical marijuana dispensaries until July 27.

Sacramento County Supervisors voted Tuesday to revise its water code to declare marijuana cultivation a form of water waste.

The Board of Supervisors unanimously agreed with the proposal, set forth by Supervisor Roberta MacGlashan, in light of the state's years-long drought.

"According to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, a single marijuana plant uses an average of six gallons of water per day during the growing cycle," MacGlashan said after the hearing.

The supervisors cited recent examples of pot busts to show how much water is being used.

Morgan & Morgan ponies up for medical marijuana again

A political committee leading a renewed effort to pass a constitutional amendment to legalize medical marijuana raised nearly $293,000 in June, with about $233,000 of the money coming from an Orlando law firm headed by prominent trial attorney John Morgan, according to a newly filed report. The committee, People United for Medical Marijuana, is spearheading an effort to pass a medical-marijuana ballot initiative in November 2016, after narrowly failing to pass a similar constitutional amendment in 2014.

‘Loud Cannabis’ App Connects Patients with Growers; Delivers to Doorsteps

SACRAMENTO —

Local app developers are putting a farm-to-fork spin on medical marijuana, connecting growers with patients and delivering to doorsteps.

“We’re just trying to streamline the distribution of cannabis and its derivatives from farm to table. We don’t handle product, we don’t handle delivery, we let you do your business,” App Developer Josh Artman said.

The app, called Loud Cannabis, is currently only available on Android with Google Play because Artman said iOS does not currently allow cannabis delivery apps.

“People want to know how their food is grown and where their food is grown, cannabis is the same way,” Artman said.
