Self-Described ‘Cannabis College’ Sprouts Offshoots as More States Legalize Marijuana

Oaksterdam University is not an accredited institution, but you might have been fooled if you went to the Capital Hilton here this past weekend.

More than 100 students took part in a 10-session seminar, part of the cannabis college’s focus on education in regions with recently loosened marijuana laws. During one session on Sunday, an instructor flipped through PowerPoint slides about cannabis-extraction methods and wove organic chemistry into one presentation. Meanwhile, attendees — clad in Oaksterdam sweatshirts, tie-dyed T-shirts advertising the marijuana newspaper High Times, and marijuana-leaf tie-clips — dutifully took notes.

Leading Scientists Believe Up to Half of Research-Based Literature Is Simply Untrue

Corruption undermining science.

In a perfect world, science would have unlimited funding, free from corporations or special interest groups, where all studies would be truly objective and unbiased. Unfortunately, this is rarely the case. Financing by private companies, or those who have a vested interest in the outcome of the research, often leads to biased conclusions which favor the sponsor of the study.

California: Cautious marijuana effort eyed for 2016

SACRAMENTO — Regardless of one’s take on the Supreme Court’s 5-4 decision on Friday forbidding states from banning same-sex marriage, it’s clear the ruling didn’t come in a vacuum. Analysts said the court “created” a new civil right, but public attitudes have shifted dramatically in recent years. The court simply gave its blessing to a cultural change that already has taken place.

We see another long-in-the-making social change on the issue of marijuana. A recent poll by the Public Policy Institute of California found 55 percent of likely California voters in favor of legalizing weed for recreational uses. Support for such an idea was barely perceptible decades ago.

New 'farm-to-table' medical marijuana app connects farm to ta-bowl

A software company recently launched a medicinal marijuana delivery smartphone app a few weeks ago in an effort to bring the pot farmers closer to dispensaries and dispensaries closer to patients.

Joshua Artman, founder and CEO of the Green Exchange, called its free app, Loud Cannabis, a distribution model to streamline the distribution of cannabis from farm to table.

“It’s really learning how it was grown and where it was grown and the quality,” Artman said, calling the current statewide distribution system inefficient and sometimes dangerous.

It is dangerous because sometimes marijuana farmers have to go to dispensaries across the state two to three times before they can get paid for their product, Artman said.

California police destroy thousands of marijuana plants in bust: newspaper

Authorities in three remote northern California counties joined forces in a raid on marijuana farms, destroying some 15,300 plants, the Eureka Times-Standard said on Wednesday.

The raid targeted the Island Mountain area known as the "Emerald Triangle", the newspaper said on its website.

The region, some 200 miles (320 km) north of San Francisco, is known to be popular with marijuana growers.

The operation, jointly conducted by the Humboldt, Mendocino and Trinity county sheriffs' departments, is expected to continue through the week with more information expected on Friday, the newspaper said.

Raid of the decade underway in America’s pot-growing epicenter

An estimated 100,000 marijuana plants are expected to be eradicated this week at an enormous, multi-farm bust in remote Northern California — the heart of the famed Emerald Triangle.

Humboldt, Trinity and Mendocino County Sheriff’s deputies — with no federal involvement — began serving search warrants Monday in a remote area at the intersection of the three counties.

Potency labels often wrong on medical-marijuana edibles, study finds

Yet another sampling of marijuana products has found inaccurate labeling of potency.

A new article in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) reports that all but one of the 23 edible products bought in Seattle medical-marijuana dispensaries last year were improperly labeled. Most of the baked goods, beverages and candy contained less THC than their labels said. THC is the main psychoactive chemical in marijuana.
