LA’s cannabis queen is pot ‘doctor’ to the stars

Although she now serves an A-list clientele, Dina Browner first stepped into the medical marijuana biz to help out a friend with cancer

LOS ANGELES (JTA) – Stepping into the lobby of the West Hollywood medical marijuana dispensary where Dina Browner serves up buds to movie stars, it’s hard to miss the name Snoop Lion splashed across a hydroponic grow box painted red, green and gold.

The Rastafarian rapper formerly known as Snoop Dogg didn’t have anyone to operate the custom-made indoor marijuana greenhouse that came as a gift from its manufacturer, so he asked his “doctor” to keep it filled with cannabis flowers.

Marijuana dispensary patients sue Santa Ana over police raid

LONG BEACH, Calif. (KABC) --

A lawsuit was filed Monday by attorney Matthew Pappas on behalf of Sky High Holistic accusing the Santa Ana Police Department, the city of Santa Ana and Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido of taking bribes from marijuana dispensaries in exchange for favorable treatment.

This following a controversial police raid at the marijuana dispensary on May 26 that was caught on surveillance video, and shows police playing darts, an officer making demeaning remarks about an amputee and another officer eating what appears to be a pot-laced edible.

"It's deplorable that city officials and people seeking financial gain would use the police to accomplish their self-serving goals," Pappas said.

Sonoma County marijuana growers urged to form united front

Sonoma County marijuana growers came together Sunday near Sebastopol to talk about how their industry can come out of the shadows, flex some political muscle and position itself for a day when its product becomes legalized for all adults.

About 200 people gathered at the Sebastopol Grange for the first fundraiser of the newly formed Sonoma County Growers Alliance.

Speakers exhorted listeners to get involved in both lobbying the Legislature and in electing local officials who are sympathetic to their industry. They pointed to the wine industry, the county’s top legal crop, as a model to follow in developing a high-quality cachet and in influencing both state and local politics.

Feinstein very slow to ease opposition to medical marijuana

Dianne Feinstein, long one of the Senate’s foremost drug warriors, has shown signs recently of mellowing on the issue of medical marijuana. She’s voted to allow its use by military veterans, pressed for more federal research into the drug and expressed sympathy for marijuana patients.

But when push came to shove in the Senate Appropriations Committee, Feinstein voted no — the only Democrat to do so — on legislation to prevent federal interference with medical marijuana laws in states such as California, whose voters were the nation’s first to legalize pot as medicine 19 years ago. The measure, attached to a spending bill, cleared the committee on a 21-9 vote Thursday and appears likely to become law, extending by a year the restrictions Congress first enacted in December.

Cannabis Ice Cream: The greatest summertime munchies you can imagine.

Who doesn’t love ice cream? Better yet, who doesn’t love cannabis? Okay, maybe some people don’t like ice cream, and not everyone likes cannabis. Regardless, get ready to have your mind and taste-buds overwhelmed by the thought of cannabis ice cream.

For those of you that already read about the owners of Ben And Jerry’s (Ben And Jerry, duh) introducing cannabis-infused ice cream earlier this year, these guys at Cannabis Creamery are already way ahead of the curve.

Located in California, Cannabis Creamery produces THC-infused ice cream that is already becoming a major hit. Check out how this shop came to be, and see for yourself where all the magic happens.

I think it’s safe to say we all want a few tubs of that ice cream for this summer…or more.

'Get Baked' sale features samples of marijuana munchies

More than 25 local cannabis businesses hosted a bake sale Saturday, complete with “medical” marijuana-laced munchies.

The first Get Baked Sale, held at the SOMAStreat Food Park on 11th Street, included food trucks and booths lined with all sorts of wares — including Doritos, Chilean empanadas, ice cream sandwiches, pancakes and macaroons — for holders of medical marijuana cards to sample. The event featured cooking demonstrations and food-pairings with marijuana edibles. The pointy green leaves symbolic of the plant were rife on clothing, posters and stickers.

Cops Raid Marijuana Dispensary, Destroy Surveillance Equipment, Eat Pot Brownies...

Cops in Santa Ana, California, donned ski masks to break and enter into a local medical marijuana dispensary, raiding it with guns drawn in a May 27 police action. They then proceeded to remove surveillance cameras and recording equipment, but they didn't remove it all. Video from a camera they didn't disable also caught the officers eating what appear to be marijuana edibles, then acting in a way to suggest they had become intoxicated, with one officer even joking that she'd love to kick a marijuana activist present at the raid, Marla James, an amputee, in the "nub."

'Get Baked Sale' in San Francisco to showcase edible marijuana – strictly for medicinal purposes ...

SAN FRANCISCO – If a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down, imagine what a pancake breakfast might do for medical marijuana.

Marijuana is only legal for medical purposes in California, but that isn’t stopping purveyors of pot-infused cupcakes, nuts and other edible forms of the drug from putting on an outdoor food festival to showcase their wares.

The “Get Baked Sale” happening Saturday at a food truck hub in San Francisco comes as marijuana advocates are working to legalize recreational use of the drug through a statewide voter initiative in November 2016.

Cops under investigation after video shows them 'eating marijuana edibles, playing darts, and ...

The Santa Ana Police Department has launched an internal affairs investigation into several officers caught on video eating marijuana-laced edibles, playing darts, and removing surveillance cameras during a pot raid last month.

Santa Ana police Cmdr. Chris Revere, in charge of the SAPD's internal affairs division, said Thursday that the video is 'concerning' and although the department expects its officers to 'act in a certain way' it has 'to be fair,' according to The Orange County Register.

Hysteria Over Childhood Marijuana Exposure Is Disproportionate To Harms

A major new study on accidental exposure to cannabis is fanning a media firestorm, and the ensuing hysteria is wildly disproportionate to the actual harms to children.

Simply put, kids who accidentally eat a pot brownie will be utterly fine. Meanwhile, thousands of kids are going to die this year from being poisoned by personal care and household products, with no proportionate outcry.

As a society, we must be clear-headed about this stuff. Lock up your edibles, of course, but prioritize outrage based on actual harm.
