Earlier this month, Sidecar expanded its mobile ride hailing service to deliver medical marijuana in San Francisco. It’s not the only substance the startup wants to bring to your door.

Sidecar is in talks with potential partners to deliver alcohol and pharmaceutical drugs to its users, said CEO Sunil Paul. And in case you’re craving them badly, it will get them to you in an hour. It’s not yet delivering those items but plans to by the end of the year, Paul said in an interview Wednesday.

WASHINGTON -- A wide-ranging federal criminal complaint alleging that baggage handlers at Oakland International Airport used their special access to circumvent security to transport marijuana across the country has a link to the New Orleans area.

The complaint, unsealed last week, said that Keith Ramon Mayfield, 34, used his privileges as a baggage handler to ship marijuana as cargo and had "co-conspirators," including Brandon Jarred Davillier, 27, of Slidell, receive the marijuana for later distribution. As of late last week, Davillier was listed as a fugitive by the Department of Justice.

Marijuana enthusiasts can now drink their bud with breakfast, thanks to a San Jose company.

Jill Amen runs House Of Jane, a premium marijuana-coffee and tea company out of San Jose. She started testing out her ideas in the kitchen after a trip to Amsterdam.

“You will taste a gourmet cup of coffee or tea, organic, fair-trade and locally roasted,” Amen said.

Since launching the product five months ago, the K-cup servings are in high demand.

Workers at the company’s processing centers package up to 1,400 K-cups, and 700 bags of marijuana-infused teas per day.

San Francisco's Sidecar company is offering its clientele a new service — the delivery of medical marijuana to customers' doors an hour after it is ordered.

The ride-hailing startup has partnered with Meadow, an on-demand marijuana delivery company, to provide the service, providing customers have a medical marijuana card prescribing cannabis use from their doctors. Only marijuana for medical purposes is legal in the state of California.

The setting couldn’t be more ideal this mid-May morning in San Jose’s vast Hellyer Park as the 500 or so runners form a pack at the starting line. The temperature is in the low 60s and there’s a slight wind coming out of the west-northwest, really not much of a concern to the entrants.

At first glance, this appears to be just another race, maybe a 5K or a 10K.

Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, here in the northern part of the 354-acre park, amid nature trails and surrounded by rolling hills underneath blue skies dotted with clouds, the runners lined up are taking part in what could perhaps best be described as an ongoing journey to change perceptions and make history.

An ordinance allowing up to three not-for-profit medical marijuana facilities in Marin’s unincorporated areas is under consideration by county officials, but it imposes so much red tape that only those who could comply with rigorous restrictions would qualify.

A top Marin medical marijuana attorney called the tentative proposal a step in the right direction, but several entrepreneurs in the medical marijuana “delivery” business called it far too restrictive.

“This is just the county’s way of doing nothing,” because no one would be able to qualify, a San Rafael marijuana purveyor said, speaking on condition his name not be used.

A striking feature of the rollout of the state-legalized retail sales of marijuana has been the tremendous popularity of edible marijuana products. Marijuana brownies have long been a staple of cannabis coffee shops in the Netherlands, but the new products are quite different. They are skillfully produced and packaged to closely mimic popular candies and other sweets. These products can now be purchased legally in four states; retail stores are operating in Colorado and Washington State, and voters recently approved retail sales in Alaska and Oregon.

DiFi voted for medical marijuana for veterans

The Senate Appropriations Committee passed an amendment today to stop the federal government from preventing Veterans Administration doctors from prescribing medical marijuana for American veterans. The Daily Caller reports:

Republican Sen. Steve Daines and Democratic Sen. Jeff Merkley forwarded the amendment for inclusion in the Military Construction, Veterans Affairs and Related Agencies Appropriations Act. Specifically, if passed by Congress, the bipartisan amendment would disallow the VA from spending funds to enforce a prohibition against physicians filling out medical marijuana recommendation forms in states where the drug is legal.

Baggage handlers working for Southwest Airlines out of the Oakland airport, have been accused of running a marijuana ring, according to the Drug Enforcement Agency.

A total of 14 people were charged in the Northern District of California for criminal conspiracy. Three of them — Kenneth Wayne Fleming, 32; Keith Ramon Mayfield, 34; and Michael Herb Videau, 28 — were Bay Area natives working as baggage handlers for the airline.

When Erik Christiansen started smoking pot, he became fascinated by the look of different marijuana strains. But the photographs of marijuana he saw didn't capture the variety.

So he went to the hardware store and picked up two lights and a cardboard box. "I didn't even have a macro lens — I was shooting through a magnifying glass," he says.

Christiansen has created high-resolution 360-degree views of some strains of marijuana, including this one of Platinum Bubba.
