Pot Legalization Could Bring A Million Jobs to California

An estimated 100,000 people are currently employed in California's marijuana industry, but that number could grow 10-fold within a few years, according to the California Cannabis Industry Association.

There is one big "if," though. That's if California actually gets around to legalizing it next year.

Ukiah tribe downsizes plans for marijuana farm

A Ukiah tribe has downsized its plans for a medical marijuana farm, at least for now, as it continues to explore what will and won’t be tolerated by law enforcement officials.

The Pinoleville Pomo Nation’s initial plan, backed by a Kansas investment company that funds tribal economic projects like casinos and now marijuana operations, called for a $10 million pot-growing operation in multiple greenhouses spanning some 110,000 square feet on the tribe’s rancheria just north of Ukiah.

California legislation would create Office of Marijuana Regulation

A bill that advanced in the State Assembly would create a regulating body – the Office of Marijuana Regulation – to oversee California's medical marijuana industry.

Medical marijuana regulation measure clears California Assembly

California’s latest attempt to regulate medical marijuana advanced off the Assembly floor on a 50-5 vote Thursday.

The state’s cannabis industry has exploded since California legalized medical pot in 1996, but annual attempts to impose statewide controls on the the cannabis marketplace have collapsed, often with law enforcement groups working to defeat the measures. Lawmakers trying again this year are emboldened by the likelihood that voters will be asked in 2016 whether to legalize recreational pot.

Can This Marijuana Give Women Better Sex?

One night last year, Karyn Wagner, founder of Paradigm Medical Marijuana, smoked a joint before having sex with her partner — a fairly unremarkable move in terms of foreplay, but this time the results were something special. “After I smoked this one,” she remembers, “I said, You know, honey, that was perfect. Save it for next time.” Her partner dutifully labeled the bag “Sexpot." And inspiration struck.

Sexxpot, derived from a low-THC strain called Mr. Nice, has been grown, packaged, and branded (with an extra x) by Wagner’s company as an "aphrodisiac weed" — the first to specifically target women.

Ben Stein's Diary: Marijuana is a Cancer

ISIS couldn’t have invented a more disabling weapon.

Sunday–Last Day of May
Rancho Mirage. It is so unbelievably hot here it’s well, it’s unbelievable. That’s how hot it is. 106 degrees with no breeze at all.

I am not at all sure why we are even here, but the son of a close relative is visiting and he had expressed an interest in playing golf. We have a super course here at the Club at Morningside and we might have played a few holes but it’s far too hot now. It is heat stroke, sunstroke weather. Cruel.

Federal medical marijuana crackdown continues in California

The Drug Enforcement Administration and the Federal Bureau of Investigations raided a state-legal medical cannabis cooperative in the Lake Tahoe area Monday, in a chilling reminder that the four year-old joint federal-state attack on medical marijuana continues despite widespread opposition and a federal law barring the use of federal funds for such activity.

Marijuana vs. Salmon? Climate Change May Be Forcing Tough Choice

A perfect storm is converging on the tribes of the “Emerald Triangle,” the name given to the three counties – Humboldt, Mendocino and Trinity – in Northern California where much of the country’s marijuana is grown, hidden under canopies of trees. After four years of drought, the worst in California’s history, a State Department of Fish and Wildlife report published in March found that illegal marijuana grows have been using hefty portions of scarce river water in those counties, threatening both water resources and salmon habitats. Meanwhile, the U.S.
