Winnipeg medical marijuana owner reopens shop but won't be selling pot

A week after being raided by police, the owner of Your Medical Cannabis Headquarters has re-opened his doors.

Police raided Glenn Price's medical cannabis dispensary last week and charged him with several drug related offences.

Price, 54, says he re-opened his store Tuesday to continue to educate people about medical marijuana.

Price says he won't be selling marijuana, but people can smoke in the building, which he says isn't against his bail conditions.

He says as long as he's isn't smoking it and doesn't have it on his person, he's fine.

Price is scheduled to appear in court on August 20th.

Vancouver radio reporter tossed from Conservative event over marijuana queries

CKNW 980 reporter Shelby Thom was booted from a Conservative Party rally in Richmond on Tuesday evening because she was asking Tory supporters about marijuana, she claimed on Twitter.

The Prime Minister and most local CPC candidates were in attendance at the event, which was held at Pacific Gateway Hotel. It was Stephen Harper’s first appearance in B.C. during the 2015 election campaign.

P.E.I. RCMP continue cannabis investigation on farms

P.E.I. RCMP are working with local farmers and seed providers to remove hemp or marijuana from at least three farmers fields in the Travellers Rest area.

Over the last few days, Cannabis sativa, a crop that can be classified as either marijuana or hemp depending on the levels of tetrahydrocannibol (THC) found in it, was found in a number of fields, according to police.

They say the cannabis sativa hemp and marijuana look very similar, so it is necessary to run a lab analysis to determine which type of plant is in the fields. The testing is being done at a Health Canada facility.

RCMP say it could be weeks before the test results identify the plants.

Even if the substance is hemp, a licence is needed to grow it, so the crop must be removed.

Harper says Canadians don’t want marijuana legalized

WATCH ABOVE: On Tuesday, Harper announced a 3-step plan to strengthen the government’s anti-drug strategy should the Conservatives be re-elected.

Stephen Harper says a majority of Canadians agree with his opposition to legalizing marijuana, proving he’s not behind the times on the way forward on pot.

A government opinion poll released one year ago found that more than two-thirds of Canadians wanted the federal government to ease the laws around possession and use of cannabis, with about 14 per cent saying the laws should stay the same.

But Harper says changing those laws would reverse what he calls a decline in marijuana usage in Canada.

Trudeau campaigns on Senate cleanup as PM talks up tough-on-drugs policy

With the curtain about to rise on the climactic second act of the Mike Duffy trial, Justin Trudeau promised Tuesday to clean up the scandal-tainted Senate, while Stephen Harper set his sights on neighbourhood drug labs.

That mess, of course, is the Senate, and in particular Duffy’s trial, which was scheduled to enter its most explosive phase Wednesday with none other than Nigel Wright, Harper’s former chief of staff, as the first witness.

Medical marijuana users face higher insurance rates, even if they don't smoke it

Smokers can sometimes pay twice as much as non-smokers for life insurance because of the correlation with more health problems.

Many medical marijuana users in Canada pay a high price due to their prescriptions, because life insurance policies consider them smokers — no matter how they consume the drug.

Earlier this summer, the Supreme Court of Canada ruled patients with legal prescriptions have the right to take marijuana in any form: including smoking it, using edible products, or using cannabis-infused teas and oils.

Canada: Five Now Licensed To Produce Cannabis Oil

Three more Canadian medical cannabis producers have been issued production licenses for cannabis oils. Quebec’s Hydropothecary, BC’s Tilray and Saskatchewan’s Prairie Plant Systems (CanniMed) were all added to Health Canada’s production list recently, after initially licensing BC’s Whistler Medical and Ontario’s Peace Naturals late last week.

While none of these producers are yet allowed to sell any oils, extracts or derivatives, most expect to be able to sell in the coming weeks and months. Several companies are already in production.

Medical marijuana stigma still a hurdle, says cancer patient

Gaston Miron says his prescription helps deal with side effects from cancer medication

It was just one year ago that Gaston Milon was living a healthy life — an avid cyclist and kayaker raising three small girls along with his wife in their home in central Alberta.

And then, one Sunday morning, he started coughing.

"I just couldn't do anything. I couldn't walk around. I couldn't breath," he said.

"I was coughing and coughing. I was coughing for a week."

'I didn't want to be high all day long. I just wanted to cope.' - Gaston Milon

Eventually, Milon went to the emergency room, but doctors could not determine what was wrong. It took months before he got a sure diagnosis.

Canada: Medical marijuana users face higher insurance rates, even if they don't smoke it

Many medical marijuana users in Canada pay a high price due to their prescriptions because life insurance policies consider them smokers — no matter how they consume the drug.

Earlier this summer, the Supreme Court of Canada ruled patients with legal prescriptions have the right to take marijuana in any form: including through smoking it, edible products, or cannabis-infused teas and oils.

However, the country's life insurance industry can consider marijuana users similar to smokers, even if they use vaporizers or edibles.

"To be honest, it really doesn't make sense," said Syed Raza, the director of marketing with Toronto-based LSM Insurance.
