Glenn Price, whose medical marijuana shop was raided by Winnipeg police this week, says he plans to challenge his drug-related charges in court.

Price was arrested at his shop, Your Medical Cannabis Headquarters on Main Street, along with his wife and a patient who was using the dispensary on Tuesday.

Police allege he was operating an "illegal drug trafficking business which was held out to be a medical marijuana dispensary."

He has been charged with drug trafficking, possessing a scheduled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possessing the proceeds of property obtained by crime and possessing a scheduled substance.

"It was determined that the owner was operating an illegal drug trafficking business which was held out to be a medical marijuana dispensary," police said in a news release.

Several police units searched Price's shop, Your Medical Cannabis Headquarters, as well as a suite in the same Main Street building on Tuesday morning.

Police seized a kilogram of marijuana as well as drug paraphernalia from the store, and about two ounces of pot from the suite.

Maxim Zavet is hoping to soon begin production of medical marijuana in a converted chicken processing plant in Paris.

The Toronto lawyer and businessman, who began work on the project just over two years ago, is awaiting the results of a Health Canada inspection completed a couple of weeks ago.

"We're waiting with bated breath, hoping to hear something soon," Zavet said in a telephone interview.

Zavet is the co-founder and CEO of Kindcann, the company that is behind the medical marijuana operation that is being set up in an industrial area of Paris.

Glenn Price, the owner of a medical marijuana dispensary on Main Street, has been arrested, along with his wife and a patient who was using the dispensary.

"[We were] sweeping, turning lights on, and all of a sudden we were bombarded with SWAT and cops," said Chantelle Barkley, an employee at the shop. "I got asked if I worked there, then I got told to sit down."

He said as Price was ushered to the back room and arrested he asked Bell to get in touch with the media.

The Canadian government intends to further restrict the consumption of Salvia divinorum, better known as salvia and its preparations, derivatives.
 
Minister Rona Ambrose announced Saturday its intention to implement additional measures to "protect young Canadians from dangerous drugs" list that now joins salvia.
 
Health Canada is working since 2011 to register the plant, mainly used for its hallucinogenic effects, on its list of controlled substances under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. So far, salvia was considered a natural product not approved.
