Pueblo teen shot over marijuana

PUEBLO -

Pueblo police say a teen was shot for trying to steal marijuana from a home on the Lower Westside early Friday.

Vincent Duran, 55, was arrested for shooting the 17-year-old, who told police he climbed over Duran's fence to take marijuana from an illegal grow in his backyard.

It is a case that is eerily similar to a 2014 incident in which a 13-year-old was shot in the chest with a pellet gun for climbing into a man's backyard for his marijuana. This time, however, police say the 17-year-old and another unknown individual trespassed on a property in the 1600 block of W 13th Street, and the juvenile was shot in the right leg with a real gun.

Colorado case study: What legalizing marijuana could mean for Canada

Possibly one of the most dramatic changes coming from a Liberal government, if elected on Oct. 19, would be the legalization of marijuana in Canada.

Earlier this week on the campaign trail, Trudeau said his party is “committed to legalizing and regulating marijuana,” which would “remove the criminal element” linked to the drug and make it more difficult for youth to access.

To see what that could mean for consumers and tax collectors alike, voters can look no further than Colorado. In early 2014, it became the first U.S. state to legalize marijuana.

Weed survey findings: Is toking up tourism a deterrent to travel?

Research suggests new laws have slim impact on interest to visit the Centennial State, even act as slight tourist deterrent in Washington, Alaska and Oregon.

Mile-high expectations for the potential of  “weed tourism” may be overstated according to a new study by leading integrated travel marketing firm, MMGY Global. The report reveals that the legalization of marijuana for recreational use in Colorado, Washington, Alaska and Oregon is likely to have minimal impact overall on leisure travelers’ interest in visiting these states. In fact, it may even serve as a slight deterrent to visitation in the months ahead.

The national survey of 2,300 U.S. adults revealed the following:

Denver busts 7 marijuana shops for underage sales

DENVER-- Seven marijuana stores in Denver made sales to people who were under the legal purchasing age of 21, Denver Police said Wednesday.

With 30 stores investigated in the operation, the number amounts to nearly one in four selling to underage people.

Since legal sales of recreational pot began in 2014, sting operations rarely resulted in underage sales. The first round of stings last year resulted in zero violations.

"We are disappointed," said Lewis Koski of the Colorado Marijuana Enforcement Division in a statement. "Up until now these compliance checks have been a bright spot for the industry."
