The options along Queen Street West are bountiful. You could start at Toronto Cannabis Authority, with a sign outside suggesting that customers “warm up with hot cannabis infused beverages.” You could take a few steps down the sidewalk and enter Friendly Stranger, which trades on nostalgia for tokers who picked up their first bong there, long before cannabis was legalized 3½ years ago. Or you could dash across the street to the Hunny Pot, which made headlines in 2019 when it became the city’s first legal cannabis store and saw an overnight line of customers.

And that’s just in 1,000 square feet. Walk for two minutes, and three more options appear.

Niagara College’s Niagara-on-the-Lake campus will see a cash infusion of $641,800 over a two-year period for research and development “to address challenges and continue advancement in the cannabis industry” aimed at their Commercial Cannabis Production program.

“The store building previously housed one of Canada’s most iconic coffee chains and now serves the convenience of cannabis through the same drive-thru window.”

Ottawa is getting its first drive-thru cannabis store.

ShinyBud Cannabis will be opening the Carling Ave. location this weekend and customers will be able to pre-order products online or directly in the drive-thru.

The site appears to be the former home of a Tim Hortons and the company is marking the occasion by giving out free coffee, as well as hosting a charity barbecue in the afternoon. All proceeds will benefit Cannabis Amnesty.

Detectives also seized $15,000 in cash believed to be acquired through the proceeds of crime

Two men have been charged following an investigation into the distribution of illegal drugs within the City of Niagara Falls.

Earlier this week, detectives with the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) raided a residence, arresting one man inside the home, and another man at a nearby intersection, after seizing varying amounts of fentanyl, crystal meth and cannabis.

According to a news release, the investigation resulted in the seizure of 10.3 grams of fentanyl, 3.2 grams of crystal methamphetamine and 1,660 grams of cannabis.

The man was also found to be in violation of a previous release order

A 36-year-old Toronto man is facing numerous charges after being caught with cash tied to the sales of cannabis and 39 grams of bud, reports CTV.

It’s not clear from a news release whether the cannabis was stamped or not.

The man was stopped by Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Huntsville around 9:30 p.m.

The police seized the cash and cannabis and further investigation led to the discovery that the man was not complying with a previous release order.

Under the federal Cannabis Act, Canadians are allowed to carry up to 30 grams of dried cannabis, or equivalent, in public at any time.

Northern Ontario has the highest rates of cannabis dependence in high-school students across the province, according to the study Drug use among Ontario Students, published by the Canadian Mental Health Association in 2020.

When a group of fourth-year medical students at NOSM University learned these statistics, they felt compelled to educate preteens and teenagers ages 12-18 as part of their unique advocacy curriculum.

“Our goal with this project was to create a captivating, information-packed video to educate youth about cannabis and share harm reduction strategies using reliable resources from the Canadian Paediatric Society (CPS) and the Government of Canada,” says Kelsey Pitre, fourth-year NOSM University medical student.

Southern Ontario Network for Advanced Manufacturing Innovation also getting portion of funding

Niagara College is welcoming an investment of more than $4.4 million to support cannabis and hemp research and a college-led project benefiting the craft beer industry, as well as an expansion of the Southern Ontario Network for Advanced Manufacturing Innovation.

The funding is provided by the National Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada.

The money will support the college’s role in the cannabis industry, a separate effort from its academic program, which in 2018 was the first in Canada.
