Los Angeles based marijuana school in Texas teaching some local residents

A Los Angeles based career institute makes its way to Austin. More than a dozen people signed up for the seminar, many entrepreneurs, looking to learn about the possibility of capitalizing off of cannabis.

The Cannabis Career Institute has representatives that travel all over the United States. They were at The Hampton Inn & Suites in Austin this weekend for a class to help people with possibly finding their next career in the medical marijuana field. “We're helping people find their next career in the cannabis industry,” said director Jeff Riedel. “A lot of people who don't understand the industry may think that it's growers or sellers. There are so many other options that you can do,”

Legal marijuana an opportunity for LEDs

Errba Spectrum provides environmental lights for those who grow plants indoors

Jonathan Villagomez grew up maintaining his family's yard and tending to the church garden. At 19, he started a landscaping company before venturing off into the IT world. So when looking for business opportunities with LED lighting, it felt natural to intertwine the two.

"I understand technology and how things connect, and I also understand how things grow and the nutrients they need," says Villagomez, a 28-year-old father of three.

Ted Cruz's position on marijuana might surprise you

How does GOP front-runner Ted Cruz feel about marijuana reform?

Monday was a good day for Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz. The Texas Senator came away from the Iowa caucuses in top place among GOP primary candidates, thanks in large part to his strong support among evangelical Christians.

With 98 percent of precincts reporting, Cruz had nearly 28 percent of the vote, while Donald Trump had 24 percent and Marco Rubio had 23 percent, according to The New York Times.

Marijuana reform is shaping up to be a major issue this election cycle, so where does the GOP front-runner stand on marijuana policy?

Texas Marijuana Legalization 2016: State Prepares To Issue Cannabis Dispensary Licenses

Texas will begin to prepare to issue licenses to retailers for the sale of marijuana-based products, reported MySanAntonio. The licenses will enable certain dispensaries to sell products with low levels of THC, such as cannabis oil.

The state has approved the products for people diagnosed with intractable epilepsy, a form of the disease where seizures cannot be treated with traditional drugs. The program was slated to be launched Jan. 10, but the first dispensary will not be licensed until June 2017. License applications will not be finalized and available to companies until this summer.

Smoking Synthetic Marijuana Is Dangerous But Common for SA’s Homeless

Amy has long blonde hair. She wears a pink leopard-print top and blue jeans with deep pockets. One blue cloth rosary hangs around her neck, a brown one wraps around her wrist. She's shoeless, and her feet are grimy. Blood has crusted around the rim of one of her big toenails. She has a deep cut above her left eye that's still healing. Instead of a scab, a small ball of dead skin has formed abnormally in the middle of the wound.

Amy is homeless, and she's trying to sell me synthetic marijuana outside the Pik Nik Foods convenience store on Commerce Street. The going rate is about $5 for a joint or $40 for a bag, which is roughly enough for five joints. Our potential transaction ends when I tell her I don't have any cash.

Texas: Police raid house, seize $230000 worth of marijuana

GUNTER — The Gunter Police Department raided a house Tuesday and found $230,000 worth of high-grade marijuana.

“I would not classify this as a grow house; I would describe it as a marijuana factory,” Gunter Police Chief Doug Ritter said. “This was something from out of the movies.”

Gunter Police and the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office suspected illegal drug activity on the property in the 400 block of S. 4th Street and executed a search warrant at 7:30 p.m. Gunter Police said because of the size of the drug operation, a Drug Enforcement Administration task force officer was at the scene of the raid to help officers collect the evidence. Police seized nearly 50 pounds of the marijuana.

Marijuana unfairly blamed for effects of ‘use’

Our love-hate relationship with this seven-pointed leaf has been going on for decades. In fact, marijuana was in the top five most controversial topics of 2014. And while it continues making headline, behind laboratory doors scientists are changing the way they study the effect of this popular ingredient on our brains, which in turn might change the way we view this ‘weed’.
