Poll shows Texans' support growing on marijuana penalties softening, gay marriage approval

AUSTIN — A new poll from a nonpartisan leadership group in Texas shows Texans having more supportive attitudes toward gay marriage and softening marijuana penalties.

The poll, from the Texas Lyceum, came out midweek. The Texas Lyceum aims to educate leaders in a nonpartisan manner about the major issues of the day.

Their Day 1 poll (Day 2 shows how lawmakers and politicians are polling) has a variety of findings.

Border security is at the top of most Texans’ list of important issues, such that 62 percent of Texans supported a recent legislative approval to spend $800 million on border security.

About half of Texans still oppose marijuana legalization, although 57 percent said they would support lowering penalties for marijuana offenses.

At 'Checkpoint Of The Stars,' Texas Sheriff Takes A Pass On Pot Cases

A federal inspection station on Interstate 10 in the West Texas desert earned the nickname "checkpoint of the starsfor all the entertainers who kept getting busted there. In the past six years, Willie Nelson, Snoop Dogg, Nelly and Fiona Apple were all arrested for possession of marijuana.

These days, though, after a decision by a local lawman, everyone from personal pot smokers to medium-size marijuana traffickers can avoid jail.

The Sierra Blanca Border Patrol checkpoint was once the bane of pot smokers driving from Los Angeles to Texas. Green-suited federal agents and their uncanny drug dogs would make 20 to 30 busts a day.

Kamloops council to consider medical marijuana grow-op rezoning request

A medical marijuana grow operation could be coming to Kamloops.

At its Tuesday meeting, council will be asked to approve a public hearing on whether to rezone a warehouse at 8170 Dallas Dr. for growing medicinal pot.

The warehouse, located on the north side of Dallas Dr. in the Gateway Industrial Park, would need to be rezoned from industrial park to general industrial, in line with marijuana-growing rules the city set up in 2013.

In a report to council, planner Stephen Bentley said the operation would fit with the city’s official community plan and recommends the city move ahead with the public hearing.

By Julia Wright

You're almost finished a half-marathon. Pulse pounding in your ears. Knees aching. Running isn't for quitters.

But today is unusually easy: you're focused on the cool breeze on your arms, the golden late-September sun reflecting off the lake, and the ice-cold beer you're going to enjoy. Forget the chaos that's happening in your body.

Runner's high? Yes, totally. But the reason you feel so fantastic today is also due, at least in part, to the cannabis you consumed an hour before lacing up.

Texas Hog Hunters Discover Sprawling $6 Million Weed Farm

Officials with Texas Parks and Wildlife announced last week that officers raided a large and sophisticated marijuana growing facility in the remote swamps of northeast Texas. About 80 miles north of Dallas and inside the 14,480-acre Cooper Wildlife Management Area, several hog hunters stumbled into a sprawling marijuana farm that held more than 6,500 mature plants.

Texas officials said that if not for the occasional report from hikers, hunters, and other adventurous outdoorsmen, many of these operations would never be found. Even so, illegal marijuana cultivators have learned to avoid the most popular hunting seasons.

citizen’s report of suspicious activity led to the discovery and seizure by authorities of more than $1 million worth of marijuana in South Texas. The discovery of the marijuana on a South Padre Island beach came after a citizen witnessed a boat offloading large bundles onto the beach.

When officials arrived, the boat quickly retreated into Mexican waters, according to a Customs and Border Protection statement obtained by Breitbart Texas late last week.
