Cannabis legalisation support stronger in Halton than UK average according to petition data

Map shows dark green blob of support over constituency but backing is lower in neighbouring Weaver Vale

Halton appears as a dark green blob on a map showing relative levels of support for the legalisation of cannabis based on the number of constituency residents who signed a petition backing decriminalisation. Darker shades of green indicate higher levels of support for legalisation.

A cannabis map has revealed that support for the legalisation of cannabis is stronger than the UK average in Halton.

Brisbane house modified to accommodate '$2 million cannabis crop'

A rental property south of Brisbane was "extensively modified" to accommodate about 450 cannabis plants growing inside, police claim.

The Littler Street house in Sunnybank was raided by police on Wednesday, with investigators allegedly locating a sophisticated hydroponic house run by two men.

They allege the drugs inside had a street value of $2 million.

Police said power to the house was diverted around meters, requiring it to be rendered safe before the set-up could be dismantled.

Men aged 32 and 22 were arrested.

They were both charged with stealing, drug trafficking, drug producing, drug possession and possessing anything used in the commission of a crime.

Colorado Springs council approves moratoriums on cannabis clubs

Marijuana entrepreneurs saw their hopes go up in smoke Tuesday, as the Colorado Springs City Council voted for six-month moratoriums after hearing hours of testimony.

The final vote on a timeout for cannabis clubs was 7-2, with Councilors Bill Murray and Helen Collins dissenting.

But a preliminary vote on medical marijuana businesses split the council 5-4, with Murray and Collins joined by Councilman Tom Strand and President Pro Tem Jill Gaebler in the minority.

The difference between the two categories was underscored when the council, at Councilman Keith King's behest, amended the medical marijuana moratorium to ensure that it will not exceed six months.

The Launch of Oregon’s Recreational Sales: A View from Pure Green

We have a little more than a week of limited recreational marijuana sales under our belts here in Oregon and the eager anticipation of the unknown has given way to the frenetic energy of a freshly minted and highly successful new industry sector.

Marijuana dispensary in Marion ready to serve patients

MARION — The first medical marijuana dispensary registered in Illinois hosted a ribbon cutting Tuesday to signify it is ready for business.

One problem: There is no product to sell.

Harbory dispensary Co-Owner Michele Koo said the dispensary is expecting to receive product in November.

The fact there isn’t product didn’t stop a dual celebration from the Marion and Carbondale Chambers of Commerce announcing the dispensary’s opening.

Ashley Gott, Marion Chamber of Commerce chairman, said the chamber welcomes all businesses. He said this particular one could help several people.

Hemp is increasingly popular in Parliament, before long it will be law.

A new step forward for the bill of the Movimento 5 Stelle to support and encourage the industrial hemp sector. In the House Agriculture Committee, in fact, with the incorporation of the changes which have taken over the conditions of the relevant committees, the bill before signing Loredana Lupo (M5S) finally has a single text shared by all political forces. Another element that makes you feel closer to final approval: a vote that could be early as next week with the final discussion of the measure in the legislature.

Marijuana legalization urged for open debate

Legalizing and regulating marijuana would help – not hurt – young people who suffer from mental illness or use the drug to self-medicate, say psychiatrists and addiction experts, who argue that is the only way for the public to have an open dialogue on the harms associated with the illegal drug.

Marijuana has emerged as an issue in the federal election campaign. The Liberals promise legalization, the NDP pledge at least to decriminalize it, and the Conservatives vow further crackdowns and are using the debate to attack their opponents.

Among the Conservatives’ main arguments against legalizing pot is that doing so would put youth at risk, pointing to evidence that the drug is linked to psychosis and schizophrenia.

Legalising cannabis in the UK 'would raise hundreds of millions in taxes'

Exclusive: Private analysis for the Treasury concludes that regulation could also produce huge savings for the justice system

Legalising cannabis would raise taxes worth hundreds of millions of pounds and produce large savings for the criminal justice system, a private analysis for the Treasury has concluded.

It judged that regulating cannabis, which was used by more than two million people in the UK last year, could generate “notable tax revenue” and “lead to overall savings to public services”.

The Treasury study, seen by The Independent, was commissioned by the former Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg ahead of the general election to help formulate Liberal Democrat drugs policy if the party remained in office.

The Great Kentucky Hemp Experiment

The Shell Farms & Greenhouses is an expansive 1,000-acre property in Garrard County, 37 miles south of Lexington, Kentucky. The five-generation family farm is operated by 31-year-old Giles Shell and his 60-year-old father, Gary. The two are whizzes at making ornamental flowers flourish, and like most farmers in the area, the family has grown tobacco for years.

In late June, the younger Shell stood outside one of six greenhouses on the farm and held up a yellowed tobacco plant with limp rootstock. The Shells know how to save sickly tobacco plants like this one, but they don’t want to anymore. “I’m hoping it’s our last crop,” Shell said.
