Who's bankrolling the push for pot

A fashion designer, ex boy band singer and former Bengal are all high on Issue 3.

They support a measure that would make Ohio the fifth state in the union to allow weed for recreational use.

The fire for the measure is lit by Responsible Ohio, but opponents call Issue 3 a money grab designed to make a small group of rich people even richer.

Investors deny those claims, saying the measure could generate millions in tax revenue and thousands of jobs.

Issue 3 would create a constitutional amendment legalizing pot for recreational and medicinal use. It could also create a multi-billion dollar industry.

Cincinnati native Nick Lachey was the front man for 98 Degrees and he’s part of one group of investors looking to end the pot prohibition.

Which States Will Vote On Marijuana Legalization In 2016?

The 2016 Election is not that far away, especially for campaigns. Signature deadlines vary across the country, but they will be up sooner than later. Campaigns are working very hard to get marijuana legalization on the ballot in many states, some having better chances than others of making it on the ballot. I was hopeful that over a dozen states would make the ballot in 2016, and maybe there will be some significant changes that help some states catch up. But for now, below are the states that I feel will make the ballot, and in the case of Nevada, already have made the ballot:

Hundreds show up for marijuana forum in Dayton, lots of questions

AYTON —

Hundreds packed a Sinclair Community College auditorium last night for a town hall forum on the marijuana issue facing Ohio voters this fall and one thing was clear — there are a lot of questions.

On Nov. 3, Ohioans will decide whether marijuana, once cultivated in the U.S. but made completely illegal in 1970, will again grow in Ohio.

Group Begins Campaigning to Make Sure Legalized Marijuana Fails

The state’s Ballot Board met Friday to rewrite the pot proposal’s ballot wording after the state Supreme Court ruled it was misleading.

The Ohio Ballot Board and ResponsibleOhio agreed to the language which will appear on the ballot.

If Issue 3 passes, it will set up 10 approved, privately-owned grow sites in Ohio.

ResponsibleOhio’s “Green Rush Bus Tour” rolled through Portage County on September 15, stopping in Ravenna to campaign for the legalization of marijuana for medicinal and personal use in the state.

Both Husted and ResponsibleOhio claimed victory with the results.

ResponsibleOhio investor talks marijuana politics

Investors say they're encouraged by potential of marijuana to heal people

COLUMBUS, Ohio —No more bickering over ballot language when it comes to a proposed constitutional amendment aimed at legalizing both medicinal and recreational marijuana in Ohio.

A state board has approved final wording used to describe the pro-marijuana plan known as Issue 3.

The first line reads, "Issue 3 grants a monopoly for the production and sale of marijuana."

So who are the people who would own the monopoly?

Income tax loophole for Ohio marijuana businesses?

ResponsibleOhio disagrees with Zaino’s reading of the proposed amendment. “It’s clear that our opponents are trying to come up with any reason they can, regardless of legitimacy, to justify their anti-marijuana reform agenda,” said Faith Oltman, a spokeswoman for ResponsibleOhio.

A medical marijuana farm for Ohio?

COLUMBUS – Dr. Suresh Gupta ticked off a list of conditions that marijuana could help alleviate: nausea, cancer, glaucoma, HIV, post-traumatic stress disorder, irritable bowel syndrome.

“And chronic pain. I almost forgot that one, and I am a chronic pain doctor,” said Gupta, a Dayton physician who plans to open a 300,000 square-foot facility dedicated to growing medical marijuana in Pataskala, just east of Columbus.

That is, if voters approve Issue 3, which would legalize marijuana use for Ohioans older than 21 and create 10 marijuana-growing facilities across the state.

Court ruling a blow to marijuana legalization effort in Ohio

The Ohio Supreme Court’s decision regarding the ballot language and title of state Issue 3 could make it tougher for investors in a $20 million campaign to persuade voters to approve the Nov. 3 measure, which would legalize the commercial growing and selling or marijuana.

The Word 'Monopoly' To Stay On Ohio Ballot For Marijuana Legalization Initiative

The ResponsibleOhio marijuana legalization initiative has created a lot of controversy due to a provision that gives the exclusive rights to grow marijuana for profit to just ten entities. Some people refer to this as a ‘monopoly’ on marijuana cultivation, while others have said that it’s not actually a monopoly because it involves ten entities, so it should be called a ‘ten-opoly.’ The ResponsibleOhio campaign tried very hard to ensure that the word ‘monopoly’ was not on the ballot when voters vote yes or no on whether to approve marijuana legalization in Ohio. Unfortunately for the ResponsibleOhio campaign, the effort did not work. Per Cleveland.Com:
